A waterproof product protects you against heavy rain, while a water-resistant product only protects you in case of drizzle.
Water resistant products do not have any membrane.
Water repellence refers to a fabric’s ability to let water slide on it and prevent the water from penetrating. It is achieved by means of a chemical treatment applied to the outer fabric (DWR). The aim is to prevent the fabric from absorbing the water.
However, water repellency has its limits: after a while, water will penetrate. It depends on the quality of the treatment, what it has endured (it becomes less and less effective in time) and the conditions in which the fabric has been used (rain intensity, inclination, pressure, etc.).
In addition to the chemical treatment applied to the outer fabric, our waterproof products have a waterproof membrane. They also have either fully taped seams or taped seams on the most exposed areas of the product.
The seams of our products with sealed seams on the most exposed areas are in the following areas: shoulders, back and front (on jackets), legs and bag (on trousers).
Products that are fully seam-sealed have a 100 % of their seams waterproof, preventing water from seeping in.
If you are looking for a fully waterproof product, please discover our products:
- with a membrane, i.e. Omni-Tech and 100% taped seams
- with an outer membrane, 100% taped seams i.e. our Outdry Extreme™ line of products.
