Our shoes offer different degrees of waterproofing: they are designed for different uses.
- Models with waterproof outer material and/or sealed seams
1a. The outer material of these models has been waterproofed using a chemical treatment (DWR)
1b. In addition to the waterproofed outer material, some of them may have sealed seams.
However, these two types of footwear are not equipped with a waterproof/breathable membrane. This kind of shoes can be used in light rain for a short period of time, but they will not withstand persistent and/or heavy rain. They are also not designed for walking in wet or dewy grass.
- Models with a waterproof/breathable membrane (bootie construction / Omni-Tech)
In addition to having sealed seams and a water-repellent upper material, models with a waterproof/breathable membrane can be used in rainy conditions for a longer period of time. They offer good protection when walking on trails or roads but are not the best solution when walking in wet or dewy grass.
- Models with our OutDry waterproof/breathable membrane: the best technology.
The strength of the OutDry membrane is not only its high level of waterproofing and breathability, but also the construction itself: since the membrane is heat-welded to the outer material, compared to a classic bootie construction, it gives no space for water particles between the two layers: this is our best performing technology to keep your feet dry in all circumstances.
Shoes with our OutDry membrane can be used for hours in persistent and/or heavy rain. Thanks to the advanced OutDry technology, even walking in wet or dewy grass - one of the most difficult challenges for any waterproof shoe - is possible without the risk of getting your feet wet.
